Affiliation with Soto zen north america

For several years, the Association of Soto Zen Buddhists (ASZB) has been working toward the creation of Soto Zen North America, a new organization for Soto Zen clergy who are aligned with the traditional formation processes as we received them from Japan, but who are not necessarily affiliated with the Japanese Sotoshu. Sotoshu Shumucho is interested in cultivating an independent organization in North America that can shepherd the Soto Zen tradition. This and the desire among ASZB members to share an organization with other Soto Zen clergy in North America who are not affiliated with the Japanese Sotoshu but who value a similar clergy formation process and vocational expression has been the impetus for creating Soto Zen N. A.
All current kokusaifukyoshi and kyoshi are invited to fill out the application to become members of the new organization. Please join with us to carry out our mission. 
Deshi registration now open
Soto Zen North America kyoshi are invited to register their deshi with the developing denomination so that they can be included in our communications and activities. We're beginning with deshi already registered with and recognized by Sotoshu. Registering non-recognized deshi will require a few more steps, and you'll be invited to register them when that infrastructure is in place. While Soto Zen NA does not have registration or membership fees in place at this time, please note that in future we will be asking for such financial support. |
